Dictionary.com defines glib as readily fluent, often thoughtlessly, superficially, or insincerelyso: a glib talker; glib answers, or easy or unconstrained, as actions or manners, or Archaic . agile; spry.
I have a good friend of mine who vociferously talks about a plethora of glib speakers on the Internet, who tout their wares by telling you that if you purchase their book for $30.00 or more. Now, my friend has over 30 years of experience in retail sales. He is well off, and is in the process of finishing up his book. Give him a chance, and he will talk to you at length about people who claim to know people like Jack Canfield on a personal basis.
I am not one to state what I hear as a fact. I only repeat what I hear. I do not know if these people are scammers, or if their product is not viable. I can only tell you that my friend is an outspoken opponent of many of these soothesayers, and that he feels that their prime objective is to take advantage of unsuspecting people, or people who desperately want to sell their book.
I personally feel that the safest way to sell a book, is to do it the old fashioned way — sell your book and your idea to a publishing house. Either that, or edit the dickens out of your book, make sure there are absolutely no spelling, grammatical or style errors and try publishing what you have written as an e-book first. Publishing an e-book is probably the lowest cost. You can purchase software for anywhere from $20.00 to over $197.00 to create an e-book that sells for $9.00 or less, and realize a nice, respectable profit margin.
While you’re at it, create a blog. Put something useful or thoughful on the blog every day (perhaps excerpts from your book). How about creating videos, relating to your book? I just spent a good hour just searching the Internet for ideas on selling an online book, and there are hundreds of sites that you can visit to not only market your book, but garner interest from readers as well.
I’ve expressed my thoughts as glibly as possible about book distribution, sales and marketing for today. More later…
